Four members of our company traveled to Ordnance Survey Southampton to participate in what was both an exciting and insightful event. Although still undecided on the final product idea we wished to pursue, we presented one of our more convincing ideas and were honored to be awarded the prize for second place at the event.

The idea we presented was an anti-rocking chair device, designed to prevent students from rocking on their chairs at school, thereby preventing numerous injuries. Below is some of the market research we did which indicated the need for such a product.

· A government study made in coordination with school teachers has shown that of the 7,000 schoolchildren admitted to hospital with chair-related injuries, 70% suffered from the injury as a result of dangerously swinging and rocking on their chairs.

· Having spoken to several teachers within and outside of our own school, we have determined that not only is rocking on chairs a serious safety hazard, it also disrupts lessons and distracts students.

· Furthermore, the teachers we interviewed expressed concern over how they were indirectly responsible for any class-related injuries, and that the many students who rock on their chairs whilst in class also distract the teacher from teaching.

· 80% of interviewed teachers indicated that they would like a solution to this problem.
